Sofia Coppola, daughter of Francis Ford, who was awarded with the Golden Lion at the latest Venice Film Festival with her film “Somewhere”, was born in New York on May 14th, 1971.

She was the first American woman who received the Oscar nomination as best Film Director for “Lost in Translation” and she was eventually awarded with an Oscar statue for the screenplay of that film.
