  This is a very simple, yet elegant knot used to tie a neckerchief which has been rolled up, in this instance it may be termed a short scarf.

  About the size of a foulard, it is knotted at the neck and covers the head so that the hair does not show. It is used by Muslim women, as well as by western countrywomen working in the fields.

  The handkerchief is folded in half to make a triangle and knotted on the side or behind the neck. It may also be used to cover the nose and mouth if necessary.

  This is used solely to declare one’s team or political preference. The neckerchief with the team or political party colors is tied around the neck however you want. The important thing is that the colors can be seen clearly.

  This knot is tied in the same manner as the Andy Capp used for scarves. In this case the square handkerchief is folded to form a band which is then tied and slipped into the shirt.
