  It’s a hybrid between a foulard and a tie. It’s a model inspired by Chanel and warn, incidentally, by one of the stars of the film Death on the Nile.

  The tie must be very narrow and preferably of black leather, but colored plastic can be used as well. It comes from the narrow ties of the 1950s.

  With the disappearance of the waistcoat in the early 1960’s, wide ties – up to sixteen centimeters – became the norm. This resulted in very voluminous knot.

It uses the same system as the Gordian Knot: the tie is wrapped around the neck twice before continuing with the knot, which in this case is not the Gordian but a regular tie knot.

It’s the most neutral and most basic of tie knots. Not wide or tight, neither long nor short. It adapts to almost everything and is a classic. It called that because it was worn in England by most of the populations between the 1930s and the 1970s.
