At the same time, imports of textiles painted in India by the Dutch on cotton, hemp and linen fabrics – known as les indiennes – definitively determined the new fashion.

Love of the exotic, and especially “chinoiserie”, continued into the following century, with 18th century Rococo or distilled Baroque, which was more graceful and lighter.

Pale colors and wavy embroidery were the new motifs which Europe assumed, to the sound of minuets, as it marched toward the political and technological revolution of the end of the century.
