Keith Haring: when the dress is painted
As underground graffiti
Keith Haring has lived thirty one years only, this kind of Peter Pan. A comet star born in Pennsylvania in 1958, appeared in the Eighties in the great artistic firmament, leaving, at his death, a long way of successes and consideration that have never stopped until today, such as his stylized silhouettes, which continue to appear on gadget, t-shirt,
shoes and watches.
It was the period where the young and overwhelming graffiti tribe of the Great Apple was leaving the underground walls to move to most prestigious galleries.
All that orchestrated by Andy Warhol, the undisputed guru, talent scout acting in any creative field and great director of the show business.
In this atmosphere of colossal forests, the artists meet and grow new successful collaborations.
So in 1986 Keith Haring creates for the video “I’m not perfect” of her friend Grace Jones an extraordinary tribal and at the same time metropolitan costume, mainly drawn on her body (described by the artist “one of the most beautiful surfaces she had ever painted”).
The effect is extraordinary, even though the queen is actually naked, and it would have been difficult to create a more beautiful dress…
