Anna Piaggi, the “pen” of high fashion, has died
For years a pillar of “Vogue”, she launched the vintage style
She was a proper middle-class woman, she spoke tactfully and competently about her work; her educated mannerisms and her voice were those of theMilanmiddle-class, reluctant to raise her voice, to flaunt herself.
The extraordinary paradox of the great fashion journalist Anna Piaggi, for years a pillar of “Vogue”, and who passed away yesterday at the age of 81, is the schism between art and life, between what she created and what she was. Because the same woman who measured her words and lived in a fashionable old Gaddian home, that selfsame lady dressed in an inconceivably garish, surreal, “impossible” manner, and every time she went out of her home, people watched her in a daze.
