FIGURES OF SAINTS – DETAIL OF THE APSIDAL MOSAIC DATING CIRCA YEAR 1120 – DUOMO, CEFALU’

Clerical garb in Sicily, which is in keeping with tradition, is strikingly Byzantine in nature. This is displayed by the three figures of saints with a tunic (sticharium) with its lavishly decorated lower hem, and a stole adorned with Greek crosses which is placed over the left shoulder and hangs to the ground, in the front as well as the back.
