Yves Henri Donat Mathieu Saint Laurent (Orano, August 1, 1936 – Paris, June 1, 2008) was a French designer, one of the most famous and recognized fashion creators of the 20th century.
Born in Algeria, where his well-off family – originally from Alsace-Lorraine – had previously established themselves due to the Franco-Prussian War, Yves Saint Laurent began to work for Christian Dior at the age of 17. Following Dior’s death in 1957, Saint Laurent was called to be his successor.
