Once more, the festival boasts priceless films: The traitor by John Ford, The devil is a woman by Josef von Sternberg, with Marlene Dietrich, and the winner of the best foreign film award, Anna Karenina, by Clarence Brown, with Greta Garbo, presented for the second time at the Venice Lido.

Casta diva by Carmine Gallone with Mártha Eggerth and Sandro Palmieri won the award for best Italian film. The Volpi Cup for best male actor went to Pierre Blanchar for Crime and punishment, whereas the award for best female actress goes to Austrian Paula Wessely, with her leading role in Episode by Walter Reisch.
