Prominent personalities of this initial review are the actors who appear on the big screen in films, which guarantee the festival even more success than expected, bringing over 25,000 spectators to the screening rooms.  We speak of major international stars of another time, Greta Garbo, Clark Gable, Fredric March, Wallace Beery, Norma Shearer, James Cagney, Ronald Colman, Loretta Young, John Barrymore, Joan Crawford, not forgetting Italian idol Vittorio De Sica and the great Boris Karloff, famous for his role as the monster in the first Frankenstein.

The first film in the festival’s history was shown the evening of August 6, 1932: it was Rouben Mamoulian’s Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde; after the film followed a grand ball in the halls of the Excelsior.
