THE SAMARITAN AT THE WELL – MOSAIC DATING TO THE FIRST DECADES OF THE XIII CENTURY – CATHEDRAL OF SAINT MARK, VENICE

An interesting example of early XIII century feminine apparel: a light blue overtunic (blaveto) decorated with wide golden bands with scarlet ornaments (frixia): medium length sleeves.

Beneath we glimpse the white tunic which is floor length.

On her head she wears a white linen cloth with thin red strips, leaving the forehead uncovered to display elegantly curled hair which frames the face.
