THE SAINTS CORNELIUS, JULIUS AND CALEPONIO – XII CENTURY MOSAIC – CHURCH OF SAINT MARY IN TRASTETEVERE, ROME
Ecclesiastical garb at the time of Innocent II (1130-1143) is splendidly demonstrated by the figures of the Saints Cornelius, Julius and Calepodio.
The first two with a pallium, wide cerulean chasuble, dalmatica and wide sleeves whose hems are embroidered with dark stripes (clubs) and embroidered footwear.
In the figure of Saint Calepodio, wrapped in a purple mantle, you can glimpse the fringed stole dangling over the dalmatica.
The three Saints wear the wide tonsure typical of the time and a beard.
