SAINT BASIL AND SAINT JOHN CHRYSOSTOM – MOSAIC DATING BACK TO CIRCA 1120 – PALATINE CHAPEL – ROYAL PALACE, PALERMO
The austere majesty of the ecclesiastical attire is clearly depicted in these two drawings of Saints: Saint Basil who belonged to the Eastern Church has a sacred pallium adorned with Greek folded crosses on the front in the old fashion; Saint John Chrysostom’s sacred pallium is decorated instead with Latin crosses.
The chasuble draped over the arms and the tunics are identical.
