Until the mid-nineteenth century, the rectangular purses decorated with beads, with a wrist band (also decorated with beads) sewn to its corners, were a very widespread accessory amongst the Plateau Indians and the Crows.
This purse (to the right), attributed to the Nez Percé, is decorated with beads in the typical Transmountain style, and characterized by complex designs, a wide selection of colors and pastel backgrounds (in this case pink).
The decoration is repeated on the other side with a different design.
