End of IV century- Staatsbibliothek, Berlin
The magistrate Rufo Probiano is represented with his
“toga confabulata” or, in other words, folded diagonally
across the chest. Underneath the toga it is possible to
see the cassock. On both sides were two notaries
wearing the Paenula, a cloak with a hole for the head to
go through hanging in ample folds round the body
underneath which a cassock was also visible.
