THE GLOBE STORY/11
Television’s, replacement of the movies as the dominant form of mass entertainment in the United States only added to Globe’s arena.
Nationals and fan mags embraced the forming giant’s endless parade of new stars and forced the studios to compete with the networks for magazines space.
It was a time when both had large stables of contract players and the stars and starlets were told when and where they would be photographed.
Hopefully, what was shot would appear in one of the prestigious nationals, say
SATURDAY EVENING POST or COSMOPOLITAN or LADIES HOME JOURNAL
but, if not, there were no objections to space in the fan mags.
