His fourth retrospective, Gerhard Richter: 40 Years of Painting, curated by Robert Storr, opened at the New York Museum of Modern Art in February of 2002, to then be transferred to Chicago, San Francisco (SFMOMA), and Washington, DC. Richter has published numerous catalogues, monographs, and books with his artwork and painting notes (The Daily Practice of Painting edited by Hans Ulrich Obrist). He has been awarded numerous awards and recognitions for his artistic activity. Richter continues to create and exhibit his paintings.
