GATTOPARDO

Cardinal & Delon is again “Gattopardo”.
Martin Scorsese’s Film Foundation has restored the film “Il Gattopardo” by Luchino Visconti and submitted it to Cannes in the presence of the protagonists.
The spectacular nature of the movie of Visconti, a novel by Tomasi di Lampedusa, has made the movie much more than a movie, almost a treaty in history, a work through which to interpret the past.
Visconti was able to recreate an era, a particular historical period through a series of characters that surround the protagonist, stressing the fundamental task of interpretation.
It is the Prince of Salina to be even more than in the novel, the dramatic center of the story and it is his way to be on the screen – his glances, gestures, movements – giving the basic elements for a critical interpretation of the story of Italy.
Searching in the background and the interest in hidden state-building units and, after a century and a half, it is still discussed.
In this sense, the final sequence of the dance becomes the key for understanding the whole movie.
