The two main characters, mentally ill patients and former residents of an asylum which no longer exists, are no crazier than the sane: in our backwards world, wherein reality has been thwarted, human or televised delusion is the only collective language.
The author (as took place in La dolce vita) lords it over the Italian social landscape which he has condensed, emblematized and re-created.
He is present in an autobiographical manner: a childhood spent living in the countryside in his grandmothers’ home, his blissful curiosity regarding women, his intense hatred of the “intoxication” of television.
