Elsa Schiaparelli (Rome, September 10, 1890 – Paris, November 13 1973) was an Italian stylist and seamstress. Along with Coco Chanel, she is considered one of the most influential fashion personalities of the early XX century.

She invented shocking pink.

Elsa Schiaparelli was born in Palazzo Corsini in a well-known family of intellectuals from Piemonte who relocated to the capital. Her mother came from an aristocratic Neapolitan family who were descendants of the Medici. In 1875 her father, Celestino Schiaparelli, was nominated director of the library of the Accademi dei Lincei by King Vittorio Emanuele II, and resided in the headquarters reserved to those who held the position: that is to say, Palazzo Corsini. In 1903 he left that post for a chair in Arab Language and Literature at the University of Rome.
