DAUGHTERS

The daughters of the Comanche Chief Quanah Parker photographed in 1891.

They both wear deerskin clothing decorated with fringes and a few beads, as was the custom amongst the northern tribes of that time.

Generally, these garments were made using three deer or pronghorn skins: two for the skirt, the other folded lengthwise to make a short-sleeved shirt.

The moccasins are simple but the younger child’s are decorated with silver German conchas. She also wears a metal bracelet and a necklace made with large metal and glass beads.

The older sister’s garment has a wide strip of pony beads on a white background, which is quite unusual in this type of clothing.
