The official selection is made up of two main sections, the Contest and Un Certain Regard. To these we must add the non-competing films presented during special screenings, the contest for short films and the selection of the Cinéfondation school films.
The contest is the part greatest media coverage of the entire Festival. It welcomes the works of well-known authors and showcases new talent. It is symbolized by the montée des Marches and culminates in a closing ceremony during which the jury, made up of international film personalities, hand out the main awards: the Palme d’Or for the best film, the Grand Prix, the awards for best actor and actress, the best director award, the best screenplay award and the jury prize.
