BEAR SHIRT

The Sioux Indians rarely resorted to bead-embroidered floral motifs.

The lazy stitch, which they used for their trimming, tended to limit the choice, rendering only designs with stripes, crosses and tall triangles possible.

After 1880 they created figures formed of thin, terraced or wish-boned lines spread out across a white – or less-frequently blue – background.
