Egon Schiele elected transgression and way of life at the beginning of the past century
Few are the artists today more famous and appreciated than Egon Schiele, however the short life of the sublime Austrian artist has been full of failures, misunderstandings, ungrounded accuses.
His elegant erotic paintings considered an offence to the moral, his unconventional life style, almost a rule for any artist, accused of depravation.
Despite this his art continues to talk about beauty and sensitiveness, his perfect style where he combined the elegance of the Viennese Secession with the emotional tempests of the Expressionism makes him unique and unequalled.
There has been then a moment in which his life seemed to follow a happy direction, evidenced also by some sweet and tender paintings, such as “The Family”, where he imagined his future of husband and father, after having married Edith Harms, the beloved wife he painted many times.
There is also a picture where the couple is hugging very tight and Edith is wearing that striped dress that should have been Schiele’s preferred one.
Indeed, he painted her many times wearing the same dress, playing with the stripes colours, giving them all the colours of the rainbow.
Unfortunately the destiny has been against him and in 1918 Egon dies when he was only twenty eight, three days later his wife died while she was pregnant.
