Ornitz’ coverage was so successful that United Artists, the distribution company, which had no overhead staff personnel and thus was more flexible than the major companies, adopted the “special photographer” concept for all their films.

In addition to Ornitz, the new photographic pioneers in the virgin land were Bob Willoughby, Orlando, William Claxton, Gene Trindl, Jack Hamilton, William Read Woodfield, Bill Kobrin, Larry Barbier jr., Dick Miller, Ron Thal, Richard Hewett, Lawrence Schiller, Russ Meyer (who went on to a successful  career as a director of sexy, exploitation movies) and Frank Bez, who specialized in portraiture and glamour photography.

All of them regularly covered films in Hollywood and became media stars themselves.
